Dr. Zhi-Xiong CAI
Chief Risk Officer, China Merchants Securities International Company Limited


Since November 2015, Dr. Zhi-Xiong Cai has been the Chief Risk Officer of China Merchants Securities International Limited Company. He is in charge of credit, market and operational risk management of the company.

Prior to joining China Merchants Securities (Hong Kong) Limited, Dr. Cai is the head of Credit Portfolio Solutions Group in Asia Pacific in J.P.Morgan Chase Bank N.A.. The group, part of Credit Risk Management, provide analysis and advice for credit exposure, CVA and deal structure for derivative products in Asia pacific region. Prior to coming to Asia, Dr. Cai worked in Credit Portfolio Solutions Group-Americas, providing advice on the credit related issues for derivatives with Latin American and commodities trading clients.

Prior to joining J.P.Morgan, Dr. Cai worked in Credit Exposure management group in Deutsche Bank N.A. in New York, analyzing credit exposure for derivative products.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Dr. Cai worked in Brookhaven National Laboratory as a research scientist for 10 years, doing research on the structure of high-temperature superconducting ceramics. He published 45 peer-reviewed papers in research journals and co-authored a book with Dr. Yimei Zhu on the structure of the high temperature superconductors.

Dr. Cai got Ph.D. in theoretical physics in Michigan State University in US, and B.S in Physics in East China Normal University in Shanghai, China.

Bing (Kate) Gui is a seasoned professional with international experience in managing audit function, facilitating critical changing initiatives, key system implementations, as well as specialized in Asia business development in the insurance and asset management industry. More than 18 years of experience working with all levels of management. Significant experience providing proactive consultation to C-level management on a variety of company initiatives such as internal controls over financial reporting, global remuneration reform, process redesign, technology implementations and greater China strategy development.

Kate joined AIA Group in early 2016 as the Regional Director of Group Internal Audit. She is currently overseeing the audit function of Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, as well as Group Office and Actuarial Audit team. Prior to joining AIA Group, Kate spent 16 years with AEGON Group, one of the global systemically important insurers. The last position she held was the Chief Audit Executive and a member of senior executive team at AEGON Asia. Before that Kate also held accounting and budget positions with the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank and Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development in Baltimore.

Kate holds an MS in Information Technology at John Hopkins University and an MBA concentrating in Finance at the University of Baltimore. Kate is fluent in English, Mandarin, Shanghai Dialect, and Cantonese. She is also married with two sons.

Managing Risk at The Hong Kong Jockey Club: Strategies & Case Studies

Mr. Martin PURBRICK
Director of Security and Integrity, The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Martin is the Director of Security & Integrity for The Hong Kong Jockey Club, a position he has held since 2009. Martin reports directly to the CEO and he is responsible for a department of 214 people conducting investigations into organised crime and corruption threatening the Jockey Club, anti-bribery and corruption prevention, Anti-Money Laundering and financial crime risk management, illegal betting threat research, customer due diligence, physical security, emergency planning, and crisis management for the Club.

From 2004 to 2009, Martin was the Director of Security & Travel Safety for McKinsey & Company, where he established and led the global security function, reporting to the Office of the General Counsel in New York. He was responsible for client confidentiality standards for the Firm’s 90 plus offices in over 40 countries, crisis management planning and response, as well as travel safety for the 16,000 employees spread globally.

Prior to McKinsey, Martin spent three years with the Hong Kong Jockey Club as Executive Manager responsible for creating a due diligence and intelligence team. This followed his stint as Asia Investigations Manager with Intel Corporation working against illegally sold computer processors and combatting theft of Intel products in the Asia region.

Before his private sector roles, Martin joined the Royal Hong Kong Police Force in 1988 and spent eleven years as a Detective Senior Inspector in Special Branch, the Criminal Intelligence Bureau, and Commercial Crime Bureau dealing mainly with intelligence led investigations in collaboration with overseas agencies.

Martin is one of the founding members of the Asia Crisis & Security Group (ACSG), and a Board member of the Hong Kong chapter of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

Mr. Douglas ROBINSON
Manager, Due Diligence & Research, The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Born in Hong Kong, Douglas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the School of Oriental & African Studies, London, as well as a Masters in Economic History from the London School of Economics. He has worked across a variety of industries in the UK as well as Hong Kong, most notably conducting in-depth research into mergers & acquisitions for a subsidiary of the Financial Times, as well as working for one of the Big Four audit firms.

Douglas currently heads up the Research team within the Security & Integrity department of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. His main responsibility is to look to mitigate integrity risks to the club, primarily through the collation and subsequent analysis of publicly-available information

Dr. Xiao Jing, China “Thousand Talents Program” Distinguished Expert, is the General Manager of Big Data Platform Division, Ping An Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. He received his PhD degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and has published 50 academic papers and 88 granted US patents, with 7000+ citations. Before joining Ping An, he worked as Principal Applied Scientist Lead in Microsoft Corp. and Manager of Algorithm Group in Epson Research and Development, Inc. Dr. Xiao started R&D in artificial intelligence and related fields since 1995, covering a broad range of application areas. He is now leading the applications of AI and big data analysis on finance and healthcare in Ping An.

Thor Chan is now managing the products and operations of Financial Data Technologies (FDT), a fintech startup focusing on performance analytics of traders, robo-advisors and mobile trading. He is also licensed by SFC to serve FDT Securities Ltd.

FDT has been supporting and working closely with academics from a number of research organizations such as Oxford-Nie Financial Big Data Lab, FDT Center for Intelligent Asset Management at Columbia University, Tsinghua SEM-FDT Financial Innovation Lab, NJU-FDT Institute of Financial Innovation to explore various research topics on financial big data and AI.

Prior to FDT, Thor Chan had 10 years+ industry experience in mobile internet and app analytics in mainland China and US. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr Wong is a Specialist Physician in Geriatric Medicine in private practice. Apart from his 35 years of experience in elderly medicine, he also spent 30 years of dedication towards Medical Informatics. He is the Founder and Chair of HL7 Hong Kong, Founder and Board Member of the Hong Kong eHealth Consortium and Founder and Chair of the Hong Kong Society of Medical Informatics. He has been the Chairman of the Clinical Informatics Program Executive Group of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority IT Service for more than 10 years. He has been Consultant Geriatrician and Chief of Integrated Medical Services of Ruttonjee & Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals in Hong Kong. He is also Past President of the Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics (APAMI) and regional representative of Hong Kong in the International Medical Informatics Association. He is also a fellow of the Health Information Management & Systems Society.

He specializes professionally in elderly medicine and has been the Council Member of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society, the Hong Kong College of Physicians and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

He founded the Hong Kong Society of Medical Informatics in 1986 and contributed in the development of medical informatics in Hong Kong. His main interests are in Hospital Information Systems, Operations Research in Health Services, Organization of Community Geriatric Services, Call Center Services and Telegeriatrics.

He has been active in the International Medical Informatics Association since 1989. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Medical Informatics, Health Informatics Research and the Asia Pacific electronic Journal of Health Informatics.
